Director Anirban Chakraborty’s first full-length feature film Mullick Bari is all set to hit the theatres. It is the first venture of Chitrabani and claims to boast an ’unconventional’ storyline. The cast includes Supriya Devi, Bibhu Bhattacharya, Bishwanath, Ritwik, Rimjhim, Rishi Kaushik and Kanchan as the leads along with Paoli, Swarnokamal, Bishwjit Chatterjee, Sabyasachi Sarkar among others.
“Story within story technique is nothing new in Bengali film, but in my film all these stories spring from the same place; Mullick Bari. Supriya Devi, the owner of the house and Bibhu Bhattacharya, the broker are unifying characters amidst the crowd of happenings,” says Anirban Chakraborty.
The first tale revolves around Bishwanath’s eerie encounters in Mullick Bari after he starts living at the place as a tenant. “This is very different from my usual dose of comedy and it is a touchy story, based on some supernatural elements,” said Bishwanath. Ritwik of Let’s Go fame is the central character of the second story. “I am playing the role of a guy who comes to kolkata from Assam to search his lost sister and happens to live at Mullick Bari. In the course of the play I get involved with a call girl essayed by Rimjhim who has some underworld connection and a lot happens then,” informs Ritwik. The third story is a comedy of errors with Rishi Kaushik and Kanchan as the leads. While Bishawanath is looking forward to break away from his comic image, this is the first opportunity to work in a digital film for Rishi Kaushik.
“Chandan Ray’s music is another USP of my film. It is a kind of fusion having 70s blended with modern music,” says Anirban. However, to Jojo, who is providing playback in the film, it is the lyrics that she has liked the most. “Hindi diction has been fused with Bengali and the orchestration also has a Bollywood ease,” says Jojo. Rupankar, Raghab, Srikanto also lent their voice to this innovative venture.
“We had a great time shooting this film and we hope that the audience will have a great time watching it as well.” Rimjhim said. So, one can expect a spell of fresh breeze passing through Mullick Bari very soon! |
